Handwriting problems – how much should we practice?

Many autistic kids have motor problems and their development is often delayed. In the same way as you would not ask a toddler to spell his name while busy learning to walk - Do not ask your autistic kid to both practice hand writing AND to count or answer questions! Either you practice hand writing OR you learn math.

Kids with ADHD also have co-ordination issues. Medication can help this out. But you need to see this as a part of the condition and not request perfection.

Count with pictures without writing.

Handwriting - How to practice?

a) Make it fun, see handwriting tip in Interacting on my own terms.
b) To write smaller: Find (google) or create crossword puzzles where the letters need to go into boxes. Start out with really big squares.
c) Try out lined, squared, plain paper.
